Ammonite Yarns celebrates its first anniversary at the beginning of May so festivities will begin on 30th April with Local Yarn Store Day.
We have joined forces with independent dyer Michelle from Woolly Wumpkins who will be coming along with her amazing camper van and talking about her sock yarns. Lots of knitters only knit socks with sock yarn and Michelle will talk about common problems and how to adapt patterns. Sock yarn is so much more versatile though so she will then go on to show other ideas for the yarn and give tips to produce amazing projects.
This free event starts at 11 am on 30 April and will continue until 12.30.
30 th April is Local Yarn Shop Day so we are putting our thinking hats on to promote the event. Might be low key with just coffee and cake in the shop or we might go to town a bit on it -- watch this space !!!!
We will be closing at 2.30 pm on Good Friday, are open 9 till 1 pm as usual on Saturday and then normal trading on Tuesday.
One of the best things about Easter at Ammonite Yarns is that yarn has no calories so instead of eating all those eggs do some knitting instead.
This shawl is a lovely quick knit using our Tibetan Cloud lace yarn. It's one of those knits that fools people that you have amazing skills when in fact the main skill in it is to drop the right stitches and let them create ladders! It only takes one skein and the pattern is free online -- much better than an Easter Egg.
Ruth and I created our Spring window last week to remind ourselves that it is Spring even when it rains and we have had our Spring/Summer pattern books in for Drops Designs too to spur us on with Spring and Summer creations.
Unfortunately Gaelle, our crochet teacher had to postpone our beginner's crochet workshp but she now had given us new dates so it is now available to book. We have three spaces left so book quickly by clicking on our workshops page and following the link. The new dates are all Fridays 1 pm till 3 and the course costs £65.00 for six sessions. Yarn and hooks are provided for the first session.
We have planned another evening crochet course. Led by Gaelle, it will cover basic crochet techniques up to changing colours and following a pattern. The course has six sessions taking place over seven weeks beginning on 29 May 2016, 6.30 till 8.30 pm and will cost £65.00.
The course dates are:
10, 17 & 25 May, one week break then 7, 14 & 21 June.
You can book a place either in person in the shop with a £10.00 non-refundable deposit. You can also book by phone 01443 520200 or on click on our workshops page and then on the deposit button.
Places are restricted to six so book early to ensure your place.
Our knit/crochet groups can come up with some great one-liners. Last night we were putting the world to rights as any group of more than two people are wont to do when Bridget came up with a new name for us -- forget 'Stitch & Bitch' we're the 'Bitter Knitters'!. It must be the effect of the weather as we are generally quite a happy group. Why not come along and join us -- Tuesday mornings 10 till 12 and/or Tuesday evenings 6.30 till 8.30 -- bring along your project and enjoy convivial company and a cuppa and biscuits. We do need a name by the way -- any ideas?
Welcome to our blog
Here we will share our experiences of running a local yarn shop in South Wales.
